Missing You in Lockdown

By Linda Hibbin

Empty bench,
No one is there.
I see you though,
Running fingers through your hair.

A laugh – it’s not the gulls.
A whisper – it’s not the sea.
Though no one is there,
You are always with me.

Linda began writing in WEA online writing courses in 2020.  She’s retired and lives in Essex with an unruly terrier who takes all the credit for her creative work.

Last year was an opportunity to reminisce and count my blessings. I am an artist, and never imagined I would find another form of creativity in which I could totally lose myself, and at the same time, find myself.

I began to read more, and experiment with my writing encouraged by the tutors and fellow students in Zoom creative writing sessions. I find it hard to believe that in twelve months, writing has become the most important part of my life – apart from the dog and my family.
