Mask Wearing Side Effects

By Duane Anderson

Wearing my mask
caused my ears to stick out
like ex-President Barack Obama
and Mad Magazine’s Alfred E. Newman;
my glasses to fog up in cold weather
so I couldn’t see where I was going;
my ears getting chaff from
the wear and tear from the straps,
but there was one other side effect
that more than made up the minuses.
I didn’t contract the coronavirus,
and I was still alive and healthy.

Duane Anderson currently lives in La Vista, NE, and volunteers with a non-profit organization as a Donor Ambassador on their blood drives.

Thanks for accepting my poem.  Here is a photo of me without a mask.  Year 2020 was a weird one for me and my writing.  I very rarely write about current events, but about twenty-five percent of my poems written last year were about COVID-19 since it was on the news everyday.  I think I have gotten that out of my system now since I haven’t written another one this year.
