Isolation

By Jackie Howlett

A single thrush in my fig tree
Alone, like me.
Go spread your wings
And carry love to those I must not see.
Mistle my kisses
Through your speckled flight.
From our shared isolation
Break free for me.

Despite the fact we have never been fortunate enough to have met face to face, we have been lucky enough to share some words together and as such I already feel as if we have known each other for many life-times. Long may you grace the world with your presence and friendship. All my love Dinger xxxx

Imagery that poignantly evokes the the sense of loneliness so many people must feel during this strange period – yet retains the hope that, in some way, the things that really matter may be shared. Beautiful.

Such a poignant piece. It conjures up beautiful and strong images. Very powerful and wonderful. At home here we gain great pleasure and constant surprises from watching the natural world around us. You have to marvel.

A beautiful, touching poem which encapsulates perfectly the caged feeling we all experienced during lockdown. It manages to say everything about that time in such a few exquisite words. Marvelous!

Nature has been an extraordinary consolation during lockdown. Birds belong to a world unaffected by Coronavirus. They can also carry the weight of our emotions, as in this beautiful lyric with its tribute to the mistlethrush.

What a beautiful, heartbreaking poem. It has a kindness and generosity of spirit that makes me weep. There is a lightness that reminds me of the bird’s flight and a hope that it will carry love far beyond the garden. So much achieved within a single metaphor. Thank you for sharing your mistle thrush with us. She will receive love in return x
